Thai teacher canes students in Nakhon Ratchasima(St Mary's college)

Thai teacher hits students in Nakhon  Ratchasima(Korat) Thailand!

Here's a scene that will make all of you politically correct types jump up and chant it's barbaric, it's a human rights breach blah blah blah!

Caning in Thailand, allowed or not allowed?

So just what is the law concerning corporal punishment in Thai schools these days? Well caning was outlawed in Thai schools about 7 years ago or so.

So why are Thai students still receiving a good old thrashing?

Although corporal punishment was outlawed in Thai schools, it still goes on as the video clearly shows us. Its really down to the individual schools view on how to discipline students. Some schools still prefer the hard ass approach others like the more softly softly pc approach.

So which schools have the least discipline problems then? Well I don't think you need to be a brain surgeon to work that one out!

What's your opinion?

Spare the rod spoil the child? Or the softly softly approach and pray things don't go wild?

  2. Where the brain ends the fists takes over.
If an adult cannot convince kids with words but have to use fear and violence then its just a sign of that persons low intellect just as the one who wrote above.

  3. Agree with CP but dont agree with teachers breaking the law - thats a rocky road downhill as student will not respect the law if they see teachers breaking it every day.

Facts are simple. Its been illegal in Thai schools for 5 years now and teachers of all people should show respect for the law.

  4. I wasn't aware that fists had been used. Maybe a bit of an OTT sensationalist type statement. Your not a tabloid journo by any chance?

Many hundreds and thousands of teachers around the globe used corporal punishment for many many years, are they all numpties? Jeez, we've all had a bad deal educationally then!

Yes, the stick has been illegal in Thailand for 5 years. So what that teacher did was illegal and he really hasn't got leg to stand on legally.

  5. This is nothing new in Thailand. I have witnessed this before at private schools in thailand and have heard countless stories of similar cases of priests teachers etc hitting students. Everyone is aware that this goes on - so to see the head of st marys act surprised or indeed authorities is farcical. Often students would line up to hit with a cane and the thai (usually but not always) teacher or priest would in an exaggerated manner hit the students usually on the buttocks. Of course i also witnessed a female teacher calling students up one by one to hit them with a ruler. One of the worst was a philipino nun who threw a six year old child to the ground. Yelling and screaming and behind doors punishment is common place. There is a lot of pressure from meglomaanical directors too who mete out authoritarian punishment for teachers and students alike. Parents have complained in the case of the nun for instance, but to no avail. It seems the power of these schools is unfettered and indeed is accepted as standard fare. If a foreigner even sneeezes or looks at someone the wrong way they can be black balled and the students summoned and coerced to force them out of a school. this is known as black balling. STudents are often manipulated by thai teachers to orchestrate agendas as above or to gain approval by parents the admin and so forth. The fact that it has been made illegal has not stopped corporal punishment. Anyway pictures or videos do not lie -

  6. Keep the rage going. while the sense of outrage is being ignited - maybe some focus could go toward rogue english schools that rip off foreign teachers - bully them - threaten them - and collude to black ball them should they dislike them for any reason. While you are doing that - try to come to terms with the reason why so many students can not do well in English - and that is the corruption - collusion - and nepotism that exists in thai culture and schools - tea money that allows rich kids to get teachers in trouble cuz parents are paying a lot of money. Just go to the stickman website and you can see countless stories that show why the thai education system is bereft of an enironment conducive to real learning. Heheh everyone knows it - oh well you'll see when they take their fake degrees to a foreign country to study - next to useless - you see the bottom line is - sooner or later your English will be tested - so get real thailand fake degrees - fake attitudes - fake mottos - dont get me wrong thais are great people in many respects - but a bad few are running your schools and thai people are paying for it - ironic dont you think
